To ensure the highest level of care, caution, and participant protection, Apollo Hospitals has established Institutional Ethics Committees (IECs). These committees are meticulously constituted and governed by robust policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, safeguarding the well-being of research participants and minimizing risk. The IECs are periodically reconstituted to maintain dynamism and adherence to evolving standards.

Apollo's research activities are overseen by two Ethics committees: the Institutional Ethics Committee - Clinical Studies (IEC-CS) and the Institutional Ethics Committee - Bio Medical Research" (IEC-BMR). Their design aligns with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki and adheres strictly to applicable Indian regulations, including the New Drugs and Clinical Trial Rules 2019 (NDCT) formulated by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) and guidelines on Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

The paramount role of our IECs is to protect and maintain the dignity, rights, safety, and well-being of all research participants. This is achieved through Rigorous Review which provides independent, competent, and timely review of all proposed research studies, recommending them only after thorough scrutiny. The Continuous Monitoring exercise oversight the EC review process on the ongoing approved studies, reviewing progress, amendments, and adverse events to confirm strict adherence to ethical guidelines and regulations, thereby ensuring participant protection. The Training of EC members continuously helps to self-evaluate their SOPs, review process and performance against established standards, such as ICH-GCP, to ensure efficiency and consistency. All EC members receive periodic training on regulatory and SOP updates to ensure consistent compliance and maintain a high standard of ethical oversight.

The management of Apollo Hospitals fully supports the formation and activities of IEC-CS and IEC-BMR across all its centres involved in human research, including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Bilaspur, Chennai, Hyderabad, Madurai, Mysuru, Navi Mumbai, and New Delhi. Significantly, 13 of our ARI site offices located in Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad, Madurai, and New Delhi—have achieved prestigious AAHRPP accreditation, underscoring our commitment to the highest international standards of research protection.
